Meeting at Susan's Home

This month I managed to remember to take my camera so I could post pictures for those of you who couldn't attend the meeting. When I arrived this is the group already there. We had a good turn out and the lady on the couch across from Dena is her mother. I know they told me her name, but I can't come up with it at this time. Later in the evening we had a lesson for Gail on how to use the spinning wheel. She was getting the hang of it so the next thing you know she'll have her own wheel. After the meeting Carol June followed me to my house where she picked up some Cheddar material to do the Cheddar Challenge on Quiltville.com and visited with Mr. Owen who says he's interested in learning to spin so one of these days maybe Carol June will have another student. It was a fun evening and we hope the ladies from Oakley will be able to attend next month. As the evening was breaking up we decided to do a Christmas Gife Exchange. The gift is to be $10 or less, hand made by someone and wrapped. If I've forgotten anything let me know. We'll do some kind of game to exchange them. More details to follow. See you next month.

Signs of Fall in the air.

Today out of nowhere the wind started to blow really hard and with harvest in full swing it was heavy with dust as well as all kinds of objects blowing through the air. It lasted about an hour and then we are back to blue skies, a gentle breeze and sunshine.

According to the weather man we are supposed to have temps in the 60's and high 50's the end of the week after high 80's. No gradual changes here.

On the quilting front I have been making bow tie block for Bonnie Hunter's Cheddar challenge. They are addicting and the first time I have made bow tie blocks.

Well, as luck would have it I have to run and pick up DH he is dropping his Jeep off to get the brakes done on it. Talk to you all later.

sewing day

We had a great Saturday sewing at Dena's church.  They have great long table and wonderful lighting for sewing.  Lyn showed us how to do the "impossible" by making and quilting a quilt in pieces but making it look like it was all done at once.  I have already started one.  April has also done the impossible and spun up some of her dye soppers so fine that she Navajo plyed it and it is still almost lace weight weight yarn.  We are considering expelling her from our club!!  :-)  Some of these meetings are kind of spur of the minute deals but if any of you would like to be notified when we are doing something extra like these please let me know.

4th Of July Weekend in the Park

This is Lyn showing us how to mix different colors of yarn for roving to spin. After she added all the colors she wanted she took a bottle cap (off her milk bottle in which she had drilled a hole) and just pulled a small twist of the fibers through the hole in the middle of the cap, sliding the cap up the fibers. She started from one side and went to the other and ended up with a long length ready to spin into yarn. Do I have that right Lyn?

Blue Day

Saturday became a very blue day.  We were feeling blue, dyed blue, and so was everything that we touched.   One of us picked up the jar of undiluted blue instead of the diluted and put it in the dye pot.  We dyed everything we could find and never did exhaust the dye.  We also rinsed and rinsed and rinsed trying to get the excess dye out of what we did dye.   We did wind up with some pretty blue yarns though.

I attempted to dye some roving for socks but it turned out VERY green and I think it will go to Lyn and I will try again.

July meeting

We met at Margies home this month.  She has the most beautiful deck!!  We had a great time as usual with some knitters, spinners, crocheters, and quilters.  We saw a BEAUTIFUL quilt.  Dena showed off her new wheel.  We had a new member this time, Elizabeth Truscott, she is eager to learn to spin.

Next months meeting will be at Anita Owen's home and she is planning a BBQ.  We will need to let her know if we are planning to attend and if our spouses will be attending.

Lake Walcott retreat

We had a great time at the Lake Walcott retreat.  We did lots of spinning, washing fleece, eating, knitting, eating, and more eating.  Hope everyone can plan to attend next year.

We have a blog!!

I think we might have a new blog for our group.  I hope that I have done this write.  There seems to be a typo in the name somewhere that I can't find.  I will add some pictures later when I figure out what I am doing.
